“Superb work, Mathias”
From tradesman to digital nomad and entrepreneur
I can still remember the exact moment I was standing in a half-renovated bathroom, demolition hammer in hand, dust in the air and...
a job that ate away at me a little more every day. Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning technician. (Back then it was a completely thankless and underpaid job.)
Until the one day that turned everything upside down for me and sent me on a journey. That was the day I was lucky enough to meet my current partner, who was already a digital nomad at the time. She showed me a lifestyle I did not even know existed.
And as if it was meant to be, I lost my job shortly afterwards. At the same time, my partner was about to fly to Bali to spend the winter months there, 4 to 5 of them.
And me? I bought a ticket and flew with her. No prospects, no job, no future. Only a few savings and one thought: "I have nothing to lose but everything to gain".
Looking back, it was the best decision of my life so far. To this day I benefit from having met business people from all over the world during those 5 months and soaking up their knowledge and mindset like a sponge.
From small startups to multi-million entrepreneurs. It was crazy who I happened to meet while surfing and later shared a nasi campur with at the warung. The mindset of these people, "you can do anything, achieve anything and become anything", changed me and my perception for good.
That is when I started building my podcast agency. The following 5 years took me around the globe. Mexico, Sri Lanka, half a year in Portugal and back to Bali again and again, where we lived for 5 months at a time, once for a whole year.
And today? I mostly commute between my hometown Cologne and the Portuguese Algarve.
Why podcasts? Because I learned a lot through podcasts myself and know the potential this tool has when used right. Because "Every tool is only as good as the craftsman who uses it."
As a former tradesman, I know that better than most. And today I enable my clients to use the tool "podcast" masterfully.
That was my journey from the demolition hammer to the microphone.
